Description

Poly is a water-soluble synthetic polymer. It has the idealized formula [CH₂CH]ₙ. It is used in papermaking, textiles, and a variety of coatings. It is white and odorless. It is sometimes supplied as beads or as solutions in water.

Povidone (polyvinylpyrrolidone, PVP) is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a synthetic polymer vehicle for dispersing and suspending drugs. It also acts as a disintegrant and tablet binder. It appears as white to off-white hygroscopic powder in its pure form and is readily soluble in water.

Chlorobutol is a preservative, sedative, hypnotic and weak local anesthetic similar in nature to chloral hydrate. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Chlorobutanol is typically used at a concentration of 0.5% where it lends long term stability to multi-ingredient formulations.
